Kong Lam

Kong Lam is a Singapore-based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and coach, recognised across the Asia-Pacific scene as both a long-standing tournament regular and one of the most active coaches of his generation in Singapore. He competes under Checkmat lineage and represents Aesthetic Asia.
Lam came up through the Singaporean BJJ scene during a period of rapid regional growth, building his competition record across the IBJJF Asian circuit and the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) tour. Among his more notable results is a gold medal at the IBJJF Manila International Open, alongside repeat appearances at AJP Tour events around the region. His career has been characterised less by a single breakout result than by sustained presence in the deepest brackets of the regional game over multiple seasons.
In parallel with his competition career, Lam teaches at MatLife BJJ, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy headquartered at 15 Hongkong Street in central Singapore. Operating under the tagline "Life on the mats", MatLife was built around a structured, curriculum-based system – designed to give students a clear progression path from white belt onward, regardless of age or starting level. Within a relatively short period, the academy has become a fixture on the Singapore competition scene, accumulating well over a hundred podium finishes between gold, silver, and bronze on the Smoothcomp regional circuit.
