Jamie Izaguirre

Jamie Izaguirre is one of the most exciting young no-gi competitors on the British submission-grappling circuit — a blue belt out of Hook Grappling in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, with a perfect competition record and a finishing rate that already places him in the conversation about the next generation of UK grapplers.

He trains under head coach Jack Brickley, himself a black belt promoted in March 2023 by the legendary Yuki Nakai — a lineage that connects Izaguirre's training environment directly to one of the most respected names in international grappling. Hook Grappling's curriculum is no-gi focused, and that orientation has shaped Izaguirre's game from the ground up. He competes without the kimono, on submission-only circuits, against opponents who themselves are increasingly leg-lock literate.

His competitive record speaks for itself. As of March 2026, Izaguirre sits at 18 wins and zero losses at blue belt, with seven victories by submission — a percentage that is rare at any level and exceptional for a coloured belt. The signature finish in his game is the heel hook, and the way he attacks it has already produced two of the most viewed moments of his early career: a 30-second heel hook finish at Grapple Worlds 2 in Oxford, which earned him a cash submission bonus on a pro-style submission-only card at Kassam Stadium, and an inside heel hook finish at Gorilla Invitational 10, which opened the event and went viral on the promotion's own channels.

His style is what the modern no-gi game looks like at its best — patient guard, sharp entries to the legs, decisive finishing. He is comfortable inverting, comfortable scrambling, and comfortable competing under the highest-stakes rule set in the discipline, where there are no points and no draws to hide behind.
